Libya: Since Libya's 2011 war ended with Muammar Gaddafi's one-man rule, the country's new institutions have struggled to gain popular backing and to make progress towards full democracy. Even the central government has been unable to control the brigades and militants who helped to topple Gaddafi are now defying state authority to make their own demands. Political parties in this country are illegal, and immigrants are not sure on any kind of safety provided by the Government in issues related to work or personal life. To add on to that corruption is pervasive and high in both the private sector and the government in Libya, which makes it highly difficult for immigrants to work. In fact, there is no indepedent press and if there is one it is completely state-owned media, which largely operate as mouthpieces for the authorities, and journalists out here work in a climate of fear and self-censorship. The government also controls the country’s only internet service provider and the government periodically blocked some of the independent news websites.
