IIT Roorkee is Hosting a Training Course for African Nationals under the IAFS-III

Since its inception in 1847, IIT Roorkee - an institute of national importance imparting higher education in Engineering, Sciences, Management, Architecture & Planning, and Humanities & Social Sciences. The institute has played a pivotal role in providing technical workforce and know-how to the country. IIT Roorkee is ranked 3rd among the IITs, in the Times Higher Education Asia University Rankings 2018. In citations criterion it has been ranked 1st, among the institutes in India. In year 2011, IIT Roorkee was awarded for best government building state energy conservation and for maintaining a green campus office.
IIT Roorkee is currently hosting a Training Course, which has commenced from 25th Feb, 2019 to 1st Mar, 2019 for African Nationals under the India Africa Forum Summit-III (IAFS-III). The training course involves 50 participants from 12 African countries (Central African Republic, Cote d'Ivoire, Kenya, Madagascar, Morocco, Nigeria, South Africa, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, Zambia and Zanzibar). The course is sponsored by Ministry of External Affairs, Govt. of India, and the participants were identified and selected by Indian Missions in respective countries, who were from different government organizations which were responsible for energy conservation & efficiency programs in their own country.
Prof. Ajit K Chaturvedi, Director, IIT Roorkee said - while addressing the participants during inaugural session on Feb 25, 2019 - that, “We are delighted to be hosting this course on energy efficiency & conservation. In today’s day & age, energy conservation is of prime importance to everyone and it will help if institutions like IITs spearhead such initiatives. We are happy to have our African friends join us in this course under the aegis of IASF-III, and thereby contribute towards further strengthening Indo-African ties”. Also, Prof. Arun Kumar, coordinator of the training, appreciated such wide participations from a large number of developing African nations in the efforts of mitigating climate change.
During the summit & training sessions the experts from IIT Roorkee, Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), State Electricity Regulator, National Productivity Council (NPC), Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency, UREDA & UPES shall be sharing their expertise and Indian experience with the participants. The experts & African officials will also have opportunities to visit and go through the activities, including research projects undertaken by IIT Roorkee for achieving energy efficiency, especially in saving electricity by way of efficient appliances, solar power production, solar water heating, and many more. Also, some of the selected Industries, who have undertaken energy efficiency measures, in SIDCUL and energy efficient building of UPES in Dehradun shall be visited.
