4. M.C. Mary Kom:



Mangte Chungneijang Mary Kom [Mary Kom], the five times World Boxing Champion has already assured a medal for India at the London Olympics after being the only woman boxer representing India over there. She is representing India as the World No.4 boxer at the 51 kg category. She is considered to be the only woman boxer to have won a medal in all the six World Championships.



Though she was interested in boxing from the time she was young, she tried hiding her interest towards the sport as she thought that boxing game was not suitable for a woman. But after her victory in the Manipur state women’s boxing championship in the year 2000, her interest towards boxing became public. After competing in few of the regional championships, she started participating in international events at the age of 18 years. Apart from concentrating only on her boxing career, she is also at present serving as the Deputy Superintendent of Police in the State of Manipur from 2010.
