2. Rajkeswur Purryag:
“I feel proud to be a Bihari” said, the current Mauritius President Rajkeswur Purryag, during his recent visit to his native place Bihar, in India, reported Faizan Ahmad on ‘The Times of India’ website. Though he was born and brought up in Mauritius, it was his great grandfather Lakshman Paryag who shifted his base from India to Mauritius.

When it comes to his career prospective, Rajkeswur, also known as Kailash Purryag, got elected to the Legislative assembly for the first time during 1976.  He was there in several Ministerial responsibilities from then, he served as the Minister of Social security, Minister of Health, Minister of Economic Planning and Information and Telecommunication, he also served as the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of External Affairs and International Trade. He later in 2005 got elected as the Speaker of the National Assembly of Mauritius and remained in the post till 2012. It was on July 21st 2012, he took over the Presidential office as the Fifth Mauritius President. He got succeeded to this throne after another Indian origin President named Anerood Jugnauth resigned from the office after serving as the President of Mauritius for nine long years.
