IIT-Bombay, for instance, saw about 210 registrations for placements this season, which is way below the previous year's total of 280. Avijit Chatterjee, professor-in-charge for placements at IIT-B, however exclaimed that the numbers are bound to swell by about 100 entries, as the placements are slotted to continue till the end of this academic year.

Chatterjee added that tough social networking giant, Facebook, is not slotted to visit the campus this season; it has made its presence felt by offering a pre-placement offer (PPO) to one of the students from the institution.

At IIT-Madras, the number of PPOs has swelled to 54, which is approximately 39 percent higher compared to the previous year.

In the words of Chatterjee, "PPOs seem to be unaffected by the slowdown. We do not know how the season will play out but we are being cautious. Right now, only registrations are on and they may not translate into commitment", reports TOI.
