Employee Engagement Lower in Women, Surprise! Or Maybe Not

BENGALURU: Call it gender discrimination or whatever you want, but an equitable workplace for women in the country looks bleak according to Dale Carnegie Training India’s “Employee Engagement Whitepaper”. The whitepaper states that four out of ten women in India feel disengaged at work, reports Economic Times. The paper goes on to suggest that there must be a positive environment for female employees during the first five years, so as to increase their involvement and contributions towards the company. This is underlined by the striking statistics which shows that about 26 percent of the women who feel disengaged at their jobs would leave for just a 5 percent hike. However, it is interesting to see that only 17 percent males feel the urge to quit their jobs due to lack of involvement in the company.

The survey has also discovered some other fascinating statistics about women’s work engagement in the country. Female employees in India are more disengaged at work than men with only 18 percent of women in professional jobs feeling fully engaged; while 22 percent said they felt disengaged. According to Dale Carnegie Training, this is among the highest disengagement scores of any group.
