Bangalore: IITs are slowly gaining prominence in the world stage and this is reflected in the latest world university rankings released by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), as reported by Kounteya Sinha of TNN.

The highest ranked Indian entry across all categories is the IIT Delhi’s electrical engineering department, which is placed at the 37th slot globally.

IIT Bombay’s civil engineering department is placed at 39th position, which is followed by IIT Delhi’s mechanical and aeronautical engineering department that has garnered 43rd rank. Indian Institute of Science (IISc) has been slotted at 50th position in material science.

IITs have saved the day for Indian universities, which have recorded a massive slump in the rankings released by QS. None of the other Indian universities or departments has been featured on any list of top 200 universities altogether in 12 of 30 disciplines covered in the rankings.
