Indian universities also failed to make the list of top 200 in fields such as medicine, economics, law and education, while engineering has saved the grace as expected.

IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi and IIT Madras have made it to the top 50 in at least one of the four areas of engineering, namely, electrical, civil and chemical.

Delhi University and JNU have broke into the top 100 in the world for English Literature, while Jadavpur University and University of Kolkata have made it to top 150-200 in this same discipline. And IIT Bombay’s linguistic department is the only Indian entry in its category among the top 200.

As per Ben Sowter, QS’s Head of Research, the rankings reflects the progress made by the IITs in recent past in its sector, but the country is way behind the global standards in many other areas of academic spectrum.
