Ice Cutter
Before the invention of the refrigerator, the best way to keep things cool was to harvest ice in the winter, and store it for use through the warmer months of the summer. This job was done by then called the ice-cutters who often used to saw ice from frozen lakes for people to use. This job was indeed the most dangerous assignment for these individuals because they had to literally carve frozen ponds and lakes into giant blocks of ice and lift them from the frigid waters, risking death by hypothermia if they fell in.
Pre-radar Listener For Enemy Aircraft
Before mankind invented the radar, we still needed to know if we were going to be attacked or are being monitored by enemy airplanes. In order to attain that these listening devices they were used to identify the sounds of the approaching aircraft of the enemies back then. It was most famously used in Great Britain and the people listening to the sounds and vibrations of the planes were then called as the pre-radar listeners.
