Are you an active and compassionate individual? A career as a recreational therapist may be tailor-made for you. But before you get started just bear in mind that the academic road ahead could be long and tiresome, and the pay packages could be below par.



As per the Department of Labor, you will probably need a Bachelor's degree in therapeutic recreation or a related field, plus in most cases require a license or a certificate, all of which can take a lot of time and effort. Even with all these credentials, what you finally end up getting can be quite disappointing.



As per Lee, considering the pay, competition, grueling work and the emotional trauma that an individual has to bear in this field, the hard work and amount of schooling required for this job may not be worth the investment.
