Bangalore: Leadership and mentoring go hand-in-hand and in fact, no person qualifies as a great leader unless they prove their metal as a good mentor.

Here is a brief overview of the lessons taught by the most successful leaders of India Inc in the words of their prodigies, as reported by Sreeradha D Basu and Devina Sengupta of the Economic Times.

1. Attention to Detail

Mentor: Azim Premji, Wipro Founder and Chairman

Prodigy: Krishna Kumar Natarajan, CEO and MD, Mindtree

As per Krishna Kumar Natarajan, Premji is a passionate and intense individual who is particular about execution. In spite of being the owner of a billion dollar empire, he is down to earth and brought in a lot a commitment, intensity and passion to his work.

He also added that, in 1982-83, while being employed as a market executive at Wipro, he was asked to give a detailed presentation regarding the market approach, customer identification strategies and target markets in Chennai. Post the meeting, Premji pointed out that the presentation did not include details about certain manufacturing clients, which highlights Wipro founder’s preparedness and eye for detail.

Lessons Taught by Azim Premji-

“Develop an eye for detail”

“Carry out thorough research before every meeting or review, even if you are not presenting”

“Execution is crucial to every task”
