The reason behind may be anxiety, adrenalin or time. Speech that lacks pause confuse the audience where to focus and where to not. It is highly suggested that one should at least give pause in between the opening, main body and closing. One should even pause after saying something important in order to gain the audience’s attention. Using pause along with rhetorical devices will make you more confident and your speech a memorable one to your audiences.

Audience always expect a bang. So, start your speech with a bang .Think harder, come up with new ideas or memorize anything.

Excuse
Making an apology or excuse in front of you audience may reflect your weakness. It may set a negative image of yours in front of everyone. It is very normal to apologize for getting late or if you are not well prepared. But it is not recommended to do so in front of your audiences. Instead, keep them aside and let the audience judge your enthusiasm.
