Bangalore: Self-promotion is something professional men and women must master in order to climb the ladder of success. But women are found to be lagging behind when it comes to trumpet their accomplishments. Even though women multi task and complete their work with perfection, their insecurity in promoting themselves drags them down. The reason for all this is that the women are very poor in self promotion.

Marie-Helene Budworth, PhD, a Psychologist and Associate Professor of HR Management at York University in Toronto, is of the opinion that, women face a double bind when it comes to self promotion. They are penalized socially for behaving in ways that might be perceived as immodest and they are penalized professionally for behaving in ways that are not self-promoting.

Women have a reason for not being well versed in self promoting and the main reason is women are more worried about criticism. The fear of backlash is seen in both men and women, but women have made it a stereotyped rule which they should not be violating.
