Test the Code: It is not sufficient to only learn coding. Candidates should be able to test the codes. Google wants them to be capable of identifying and removing bugs, breaking software and creating tests. Algorithmic problems are even asked during the technical interview round.
Have some Background in Abstract Math: Some knowledge regarding abstract or pure mathematics should be present before applying for a job in Google. One should cover areas like logical mathematics, algorithm, discrete math and derivatives and integral problems which one learns along with the computer science.
