Do something you’re little not ready to do: Studies have shown that some people apply for open positions when they meet only 60 percent of the criteria while others apply when they meet the full 100 percent. On average, the people who take initiative to learn on the job are promoted more often. Analyze your skills and take on challenges that expand your limits.

Work with smart and empathetic people: It is important to find not just the right field but the right environment. While you might be great in your chosen profession, the quality of the people you work with will impact your growth. Find ways to work or network with the most effective people at your level in your field, because you learn as much, if not more, from your peers as from the C suite.
