Assuming all these numbers are correct, $3 million compensation per year is nearly three folds higher than the highest reported annual compensation for a Google engineer. But this doesn’t necessarily mean that the BI story was not accurate and no engineers at Google bagged that much amount. It could be that the person in the article is an exceptional talent with skills and credentials that are unmatched.

The commenters on the story on BI and Reddit say that the $3 million Google engineer in question is Jeff Dean, a Senior Fellow in the Knowledge group who, as per SFGate.com is "widely credited by Googlers for the blazing speed of the company's famed search engine."

The conclusion is that, yes Google engineers make good money, but even for them a $3 million worth net earnings a year is a whole lot of money.
