1. Shep and Ian Murray, Vineyard Vines: In 1998 Shep Murray, who worked as an advertising account executive, and Ian Murray, who worked at a small public relations firm, were unhappy sitting behind desks at their corporate jobs in Manhattan, therefore, the two brothers decided to quit their jobs, within 10 minutes of each other. They took cash advances on their credit cards and decided to sell ties. Initially, they sold out 800 ties within the first week, out of their backpacks, on the beach, on boats and in bars. Followed by that, they swiftly re-ordered for more ties, paid off their debt and shifted into their first office. Now the business is an entire clothing line. The line can be found in about 500 stores, moreover there are now 18 freestanding Vineyard Vine retail stores around the United States.
