4.  Mamta Banerjee:



The current Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamta Banerjee is the first woman to hold the office. She is the founder of All India Trinamool Congress, which was founded in the year 1997. She became its Chairperson after she separated from the Indian National Congress. Her government has the credit of defeating the world’s longest-serving democratically-elected communist government [CPM]. Before she was elected as the CM of West Bengal, she served as the Minister of Railways, Minister of Coal and the Minister of State for Human Resource Development, department of youth affairs, women, sports and child development. She had strongly opposed forceful land acquisition for industrialization by the communist government in West Bengal when it was in power.



5. Pratibha Patil:



Pratibha Patil is the first woman President of India. Before she succeeded this most prestigious throne of the nation in 2007, she was the Governor of Rajasthan. Ashe is the member of Indian National Cangress and she was nominated for the president post by the current ruling UPA government. Apart from serving as the President of the country, she is also a philanthropist along with her husband and she has set up hostels for working women and educational institutions.
