BENGALURU: The Enforcement Directorate has informed the government about backlog is critical cases filed with them as 70pct of posts are vacant in the agency. Fresher or newcomers are not expressing interest to join the team due to lack of lucrative incentive schemes and plans, reports The Times Of India.

In a letter to the revenue department of the government, the ED writes, "It is difficult to fill up operational level posts as no officers are willing to come on deputation for lack of any incentive allowance... while the CBI has both special incentive scheme and a reward policy."

Out of a total of 1593 positions, currently the agency has less than 450 employees. The ED is currently working with a 30pct deduct in sanctioned work strength. Openings lie for top notch positions like joint directors, deputy directors and enforcement officers.

The agency has also pointed to incentives provided to their peers like Research and Analysis Wing and the Intelligence Bureau and not to them. To resolve the issue, the agency demands Rs 51 lakh a month as special incentive allowance (SIA) for the current employees in the organization.

This is not the first time. Request for reward policy especially in monetary issues has been applied by the ED almost 14times in last seven years.

The application was first posted in 2008 regarding recommendations of independent review committee (IRC) of the government. This mission was supported by Supreme Court in the Vineet Narain vs Union of India case.

The ED confirms that even this first application has not received any government response till date in seven years.

After successful investigation in Commonwealth Games, 2G scam, Coalgate scam and money laundering probes against Jagan Mohan Reddy, ED is now working on AgustaWestland VVIP helicopter deal and Isro's S-Band spectrum.
