IT Jobs Forecasted to Grow by 2020

2. IT Managers: IT managers plan, coordinate, direct, and design IT-related activities of the organization, they also provide administrative direction and support for daily operational activities of the IT department. By 2020 employment in this field is expected to increase 18 percent by 55,800 jobs to 363,700 jobs. In 2010 the median pay package of IT managers was $115,780. The BLS report highlighted that development in the health care industry and the need for more IT security may help increase IT management jobs, but added that cloud computing may move some IT services to computer systems design and related services firms, focusing  jobs in that industry.



3. Computer programmers: Computer programmers are professionals who change project specifications and statements of problems and procedures to detailed logical flow charts for coding into computer language. They develop and write computer programs to store locate and regain specific documents, data and information. The occupation that is most inclined to off shoring is considered to be the weakest IT growth area. The BLS report anticipates that the number of professionals employed as computer programmers will increase by only 12 percent through the decade, from 363,100 in 2010 to 406,800 by 2020. In the U.S. over the same period this is less than the 14 percent expected rate of increase for all occupations, IT and otherwise. In 2010 the median pay for computer programmers was $71,380.
