Bangalore: With the growing trend in online education, India holds the second highest number of enrolments with more than 1,50,000 students from the country. Various students are taking up different online courses, reports Kirtika Suneja for The Financial Express.

From the 1.2 million students on online platform edX from all across the world, 30 percent of them are from the US while 13 percent are from India.

EdX provides its users with massive online open courses (MOOC) interactive online classes in different subjects like law, history, science, engineering, business, social sciences, computer science, public health and artificial intelligence. Currently, edX offers 70 online courses to its users.

“Engineering courses were in high demand initially and then subjects in public health became very popular with Indian students,” said Anant Agarwal, president of edX. He added that the courses which are available online today were only available in brick-and-mortar system earlier.

As there were close to only 30 percent Indian students opting for a course in circuits and electronics, 21 percent are favoring subjects related to computer graphics. Also, a similar number is choosing courses in artificial intelligence.
