'Flexibility, Career Growth Key to Hire, Retain Gen Z Staff'

NEW DELHI: In order to attract and retain generation Z employees, those born after 1990s, organisations should offer flexible timing, career growth and learning opportunities, a study says.

According to the TimesJobs' Hiring and Engaging Gen Z study, particular traits such as liking towards flexible timing and preference of career growth over salary must be leveraged by organisations in order to engage and retain them.

"Offer them great work-life balance and they will be yours," the study said adding that companies are increasingly coming to terms with this change.

Interestingly, none of the surveyed organisations believe money can help motivate Generation Z employees to work harder and stay with them in the long run.

It is career growth and learning opportunities that will retain and engage the Generation Z workforce, said nearly 41 per cent employers in the TimesJobs.Com survey.

The study further noted that as opposed to the popular belief that Generation Z employees are 'tech freaks', the study finds Gen Z in India actually prefers face-to-face communication over e-mail or instant messaging.

In order to attract the Gen Z employees, companies should make an effort to be present online. Around 40 per cent of organisations feel online job portals currently provide the most effective hiring tools for Gen Z. This is followed by professional networking sites such as LinkedIn and TechGig.

"They (Gen Z) are fully aware that their options are limitless but their time is not. This has led to particular traits that must be leveraged by organisations in order to engage and work with this passionate and entrepreneurial generation," TimesJobs.Com COO Vivek Madhukar said.
