BANGALORE: Colleges make students use a set format for all assignments in college, so first time job seekers often think that standardizing their resume so that it looks like everyone else’s is the best thing to do. However, when applying for a job, not coming across as a person with unique skills and interests is one of the biggest mistakes you can make. Businessinsider.com lists 4 questions that must be answered to get your resume through the door:

What is a resume for: A resume is a document that clearly lists your skills, plans and goals for the future. A study conducted via the internet showed that almost 99 percent of people duplicate the resume format that their friends are using. Such people are so rushed trying to get a job that they don’t stop to consider what they are looking for, or what they can offer companies looking to hire people.

Recruiters can easily spot people who haven’t customized their resume; it appears as though they’ve copied and pasted every last detail from a friend’s. Often people forget to list basic things like what their specific skills or experiences are, or which languages they can speak. They don’t adjust the format and font of their resume to match length, or list their experiences in the relevant order.
