Demand for Additional Skilled Manpower to Rise To 34.7 Crore By 2022

New Delhi: There will be an additional requirement of skilled labour to the tune of 34.7 crore by 2022 in various sectors, with infrastructure leading the demand, according to government studies.



Replying to a query in Lok Sabha, Minister of state for labour Kodikunnil Sureshsaid that the National Skill Development Council (NSDC) had got studies conducted to assess incremental requirement of skilled manpower in 21 sectors including infrastructure.



As per the details provided by the minister, in 2022 the incremental requirement in Infrastructure structure sector would be 10.3 crore while in the building and construction sector it would be 3.3 crore.



The requirement in some of the other prominent sectors as per the survey are : real estate services 1.4 crore, textile and clothing 2.62 crore, auto and auto components 3.5 crore, healthcare 1.27 crore, transportation and logistics 1.77 crore and media and entertainment (30 lakhs).



The minister said that the government had taken a slew of steps including a cabinet committee on skill development and the constitution of a National Skill Development Agency to ensure training of a large number of people in the country.
