NEW DELHI: A number of candidates for the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) examination here said they were not allowed to appear due to shortage of question papers even though they had admit cards.

"About 25-30 students who had already entered the examination centre and had admit cards were asked to leave due to shortage of printed question papers. The examination superintendent told them their exam would be conducted on August 30 and that they should not discuss the matter with anyone outside," said Pawan Kumar, one of the affected candidates, who came from Rajasthan.

The examination centre was at Government Boys Senior Secondary School near Kasturba Hospital at Daryaganj in central Delhi.

Many candidates who reached the centre a few minutes late in the morning due to rain were not allowed in even though the examination began 40 minutes late at 10:40 a.m.

"The scheduled time to enter the examination hall was 9:30 a.m., but some of us reached 5-10 minutes late due to rain. Still, we were not allowed to enter. However, the examination superintendent and the invigilators who came late were given permission to enter and the examination began 40 minutes late," he said.

"Even a couple of constables present there tried to convince the officials to let us in, but they refused," Pawan Kumar added.

Meanwhile, police denied having received any complaint and said no case has been registered.
