Abdul Kalam Fellowship Introduced for Indian Students in USF

BENGALURU: To encourage education for talented Indian students abroad, the University of South Florida announced a postgraduate fellowship programme in the name of former Indian president, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.

"Dr. Kalam left an indelible mark on the academic community, one that will now continue over time through this most prestigious Kalam Fellowship,” said Launching the fellowship at the Global Higher Education summit of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), USF provost Ralph Wilcox.

Wilox added, "Dr. Kalam was an honoured visitor to the University of South Florida, and he spoke at great lengths about the importance of green energy and sustainability. We want to honour the great man and his extraordinary life through this award and offer a platform to support highly talented young Indians and the next generation of global innovators and entrepreneurs." 

The fellowship allows a tuition waiver valuing upto $84,500 in four years, and a stipend of $18,000 per year. Students pursuing engineering and science at USF can opt for this. As the university introduces this fellowship program, they are expecting more Indian students to be a part every year making US their preferred country for higher education.

The fellowship will be bestowed from 2016-17.

When Wilox visited India along with Dean Moez Limayem of USF, they visited Infosys in Bangalore, Manipal University; Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies, H.R. College of Commerce and Economics in Mumbai for partnership.
 

Listed among the top notch research universities, USF is affiliated to the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching.
