BANGALORE: Careers are complicated. It’s true that we tend to get all kinds of advice from all sorts of gurus. CEOs, scientists, movie stars and athletes are pestered for the secrets to their success. But the only thing everyone can agree on is that there are many ways to chalk out a great career path. Make data driven decisions: As few as ten years ago, people had to make important career decisions with minimal data. That isn’t the case anymore. Data is available everywhere, and collecting and sorting through it will help you make better decisions. Don’t just choose between a big company and a start up; instead try to identify each company’s unique challenges. Will they have more difficulty with developing a technology or marketing it? Is the company more focused on its supply chain or its competitors? Try and get as much information as possible before making your pro con list.
