Tamil Nadu Government to Distribute 5.36 Lakh Desktops for the Current Academic Year

BENGALURU: We wonder about Santa Claus bringing free goodies during Christmas every December. But, the Tamil Nadu government has decided to do the same by giving Goodies every year. This year the goodies come in form of laptops like the previous academic year 2015. According to Firstpost, the Tamil Nadu government will supply around 5.36 lakh laptops during the 2016-17 academic year, under the scheme of providing free laptops to students.



The minister of the state information technology (IT) M. Manikandan proclaimed that the AIDMK government during the previous five-year term also had supplied 32.35 lakh free laptops to students. While speaking at the “Connect 2016”, an annual conference and exhibition and communication technology (ICT), organized by the confederation of Indian Industry (CII), manikandan also reported that 10,486 e-seva centers are actively functioning in the state to provide online facility for getting birth/ death certificate to the people.



Minister also said that the global investor meet organized in the previous year attracted RS 10,950 core investments in the IT sector.  One of the founders of Infosys, Kris Gopalakrishnan mentioned that the growth of Indian IT sector is expected at 10 per percent per annum and further has the potential to add additional one lakh jobs.



The Vice-Chairman and Managing Director of NIIT, Vijay K. Thadani also said that the education should focus on digitization, which turns out to be the future of specialization. In addition, he also said that certain IT companies are heading towards re-skilling their workforce in digital technology.
