Reliance Jio 4G Service Storms up Telecom Sector, Boosts Hiring

BANGALORE: Reliance Jio Infocomm's forthcoming service release of their 4G options in the telecom industry is deemed one of the best hiring phases in recent time. Arpita Pal Agrawal, leader-telecom at PwC India said "From a lull period following the cancellation of telecom licenses in 2012, hiring has shot up and this is the highest we have seen since new licences were issued in 2008", reports ET.



The 4G launches has paved a way for the rivals among billionaires – with a blend in Mukesh and Anil Ambani heading Reliance Jio and Reliance Communications competing against Sunil Bharti Mittal, who runs the India's No. 1 telco Bharti  Airtel and Kumar Mangalam Birla who heads Idea Cellular. Vodafone India also in the telecom competitive race is among the heavyweights.



Hiring in this sector has began across levels and staffing firm TeamLease  that calculates approximately an additional 20,000-30,000 jobs to created with the next 4-6 months. A top headhunter who wishes to be unidentified said "What Jio is trying to do is build an entire ecosystem and revolutionalise the way things worked till now. To this end, it has hired a lot of people across different sectors. Other companies are following suit".



Away from the rivals, senior-level talent in Jio have been lured in from  unlikely companies  that are quite diverse this includes mobile-gaming firm Mango Games,  Hathway, Indian social networking platform StepOut, McCann-Erickson and Aditya Birla Retail. Initially in the first 9 months of the year, Idea Cellular witnessed 2,700 recruited as in opposed to 1,500 the previous year.  Santrupt Misra, directorgroup HR at the Aditya Birla Group said "Focus on rural penetration, Jio's launch and hiring within sector have forced telecom firms to create benches and that means more recruitment". He revealed that additional 2,500-3,000 employees will soon be hired to Idea's payrolls next year.
