New Delhi: The Central Association of Private Security Industry (CAPSI) on Wednesday said the private security sector will generate over 50 lakh new jobs in India by 2020 on the back of rising demand for manned guards.

“The government’s focus on smart cities and infrastructural development projects - roads, airports and seaports - would require a huge security workforce in the next five years. These initiatives will generate over 50 lakh job opportunities in the security services sector in the next 5-6 years,” CAPSI Chairman Kunwar Vikram Singh said in a statement.

The apex body of private security services providers said that at present, the sector has over 15,000 security services companies operating across 600 districts across India and has a workforce of 70 lakh guard-men and women.

Singh, however, said that manpower procurement and retention in the private security industry is very challenging with increase in alternate employment opportunities and rapid rise in manpower requirement.

There is a demand-supply mismatch to the tune of 30 per cent as far as security workforce is concerned, he added.

He said both CAPSI and Security Sector Skill Development Council (SSSDC), set up under the National Skill Development Corporation, would launch an awareness drive in tribal areas pan-India about the employment opportunities in the private security sector.
