Mangalore, June 20: The final year students of the mechanical engineering department of Shrinivas Institute of Technology in Valachil have invented a machine that can turn out 350 dosas per hour.

Called Multiple Dosa Machine (MDM), this machine was created by Pawan Raj, Joel DSouza, Vandana Lobo, Joel DSouza, and Jason Martis under the guidance of Prof. Neelakantha V. Londhe and Rohit Jayaraja.

The machine comprises a disc that rotates slowly with the help of an electric motor and a gear mechanism. The batter is made to fall over the disc, which has a number of pans attached to it, with the help of a pneumatic value. An independent gas burner will be used to heat the disc.

The inventors say that the MDM will be useful to hostels, restaurants, and hotels for quick preparation of dosas in large batches.

The students say that their project has been financed by the Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology and that Dr. Dilip Kumar, the head of the department, and Dr. Shrinivas Mayya D., the principal, administrated the project.

Raghavendra Rao, the president of the college administration, and Vice President A. Shrinivas Rao also expressed their appreciation of this project.

1: Dear Dr.a. Jagadeesh,
You are absolutely right. Our ideas coincidentally matched with the CFTRI. As soon as we got this idea we looked up for it in Google and found it to be already INVENTED (created). Even then, we did this because it was not a stolen idea. And our product was not as sophisticated as the DOSAMATE.. But who cares, its finally the cost and the adaption to small scale Hotels. And im sorry i dint have the time to read your entire essay*.
And hey wait a minute !
Why shouldnt Silicon India publish about us. We have done this project too. So what if we did it after CFTRI.

WE INVENTED/CREATED the Dosa machine (unfortunately) after the CFTRI invented/created it.

(Take the above comment with a cool head)

2: Silicon India, stop publishing this type of stuff. DOSAMATE was designed by CFTRI and is already commercialised.

Here are details:

In India, morning breakfast with dosa is enjoyable and its taste really fantastic and memorable one. Preparing dosa in Canteens, Hotels, Hostels, Exhibitions, Fairs and large establishments is very difficult task by manual preparation. The necessity of this machine made Central Food Technology Research Institute (CFTRI), Mysore 570 020, India to work on this and developed a dosa machine design. What is the invention is all operations are untouched by hand. This is the first of its kind and it lends itself for continuous production of ready-to-eat/serve Dosas.

Process of all operations in the Dosa making – from batter dispersion, depositing and spreading on the hot plate to toasting / roasting and oil application are organized in a systematic way. There is a time setting for residency time to get hot dosas. The hot Dosas are rolled and discharged at the end of operation. One unskilled person is enough to take these rolled dosas.

The device is backed with variable speed drive arrangement and an effective control for LPG to select time, temperature and output combinations. The machine can be used for preparation of Dosas of different kind and sizes. It is most suitable for use in Industrial Canteens, Hotels, festivals, large gatherings etc., where Dosas can be prepared on a large scale.

Capacity of this machine is 400 Dosa per hour and Number of dosas can be increased or decreased by setting time. Electricity is required in 440 V AC and LPG gas connection option is available for this machine. The size of the Machine is 3m x 3m.

The machine was developed by CFTRI, Mysore and it was kept for public demonstration at the CSIR Technofest 2010 organised Council of Scientific & Industrial Research, New Delhi during November 14-27, 2010 at New Delhi, India.

Also Idly maker was designed and commercialised by CFTRI.

These young students should undertake problems in energy saving,Appropriate Technology etc.
