IITians Opt For Own Ventures Over Fat Paychecks

BANGALORE: A budding number of students across Indian Institutes of Technology are eschewing campus recruitment and are opting to start their business ventures. These enthusiastic IITians are opting for entrepreneurship in place of fat pay cheques. Mohak Mehta, a BTech student representative for IIT Bombay said, "The confidence to pursue entrepreneurial ventures right out of college (or when in college) has increased owing to the successes of recent IIT startups, " reports, Sreeradha D Basu & Devina Sengupta of ET Bureau.

Aspiring IITians are not only restricting their business enterprises to tech-based companies, but are also projecting their ventures into tourism, hiring, music and food. Failure is not a setback to these zealous entrepreneurs, “Where is the fun if you don't follow your dreams?" said Rhythm Gupta, a student at IIT Delhi.

Vishesh Sharma, a fourth-year ceramic engineering student at IIT-BHU (Varanasi) along with a seven member team established Internlelo.com. This venture makes it easy for companies to hire interns from top colleges including the IITs, NITs and BITS Pilani. It also has a software that filters resumes, their clients include software firm Intuit and startup GetMeAShop.com. Internlelo anticipates revenue of `27-28 lakh this fiscal.

The batch of 2015, at least 40 IITian students have   decided to shun campus recruitment in hopes of pursing capitalist enterprises. Recently ET said that around 1,000-1,200 offers are anticipated to come from startups and ecommerce companies for IIT students graduating next year.
