Bangalore: The difference between being fired and asked to resign is quite significant, especially when an individual applies for a new job. Understanding the difference between the two is quite beneficial and makes it easier for an individual to explain the reason why he / she left one place of employment to go to another and the reasons for applying for the current job opening.

Here is a look at four ways outright termination differs from resignation, as reported by Amanda C. Haury of Investopedia, published on Yahoo Finance website.

1. Resignation Is More Graceful:

Resignation is often a much more elegant transition than termination. Resignation gives enough time for an individual to think, assess, introspect and plan for the future. It allows an individual to tie up loose ends, find an appropriate replacement and prepare for an imminent career transition. Whereas, termination incorporates no grace period, no compensation package and no apologies. It forces an individual to find immediate replacements or suffer financial repercussion.

Resignation isn’t without price; it incorporates added stress and pressure of working in an environment where he /she is no longer welcomed and may have the added responsibility of training and nurturing their replacements, which is never easy.
