# Lateral hiring

Lateral hiring refers to the hiring of someone into a position that is at the same organizational level or salary. It could mean hiring someone from another, similar organization, possibly luring them with a better salary and the promise of better career opportunities.

An example is the recruiting of a partner of a law firm by another law firm. A lateral hire may also refer to an employee moving from one position to another within the same organization.

# Social Media

Social media simply provides another set of tools to build communities, both within and outside the organization, and create the ability to start, monitor, and participate in discussions about the organization.

HR has been an early adopter in business use of social media and develops cost effective and wide ranging recruitment programs.

HR professionals can use these social media tools like Facebook, Twitter and blogs to gain knowledge and to support their organizational objectives and hiring goals.
