Network and Computer Systems Administrator

Are you a curious type who always tries to figure out how things work? Use this curiosity to the fullest by opting to become a network and computer systems administrator.

As a network and computer systems administrator, you will be in charge of all the day-to-day operations of the computer networks within the organization. You will have to organize, install, maintain and support the computer systems within an organization, including the LANs (Local Area Networks), WANs (Wide Area Networks), and other data communication systems. You might also be responsible for installing network hardware and software for a company, evaluate how well it's working, and train people on how to use it.

As firms grow and merge, they will have to use technology to manage their business, communication, and make operations more efficient, and this is where the role of these professionals becomes important.

The employment opportunities for network and computer systems administrators are projected to grow by 28 percent over the next decade, according to the Department of Labor.

A Bachelor's degree in computer science, information science or a related field is the most common educational requirement for this career. While, a few positions might call for an Associate's degree or a professional certification in a computer field and some work related experience.
