Hot IT Job No. 2: Data Scientist

The huge chunk of data generated by Web streams, system logs, and other event activities represents a huge opportunity and in that large number of data might be invaluable nuggets about customer behavior, security risks, potential system failures, and more. But when you're talking terabytes that double in volume every time where do you start? That's where the data scientist’s role comes in.

The job descriptions of data scientist are crunching numbers, evaluating data and manipulating data to receive desired results on daily basis. These professionals help organizations effectively run their operations. They do this by comparing past performance, current trends and projections and thereby build an effective strategy that can have a positive impact on the company’s revenues.

"There's now an intellectual consensus in business that the only way to run an enterprise is to use analytics with data scientists to find opportunities," says Norman Nie, CEO of Revolution Analytics.

Data analysts should have at least an Associate degree, but employers may give preference to applicants who possess Bachelor's or graduate degrees.
