Nonprofits, educational institutions, hospitals, and many similar institutions need money to survive and thus would pay nicely for the employees who could bring in the bills. Candidates seeking for a job in the field must be able to build relationships to recruit volunteers and donors, manage donor accounts, make financial projections, manage multi-layered projects ranging from large campaigns to donor events, and communicating the core message of the organization and inspire people to help. Convincing people to give generously is the challenging part of the job, meaning employees with background in sales or marketing can be impactful while attempting to set foot into the job as a fundraiser. Even leadership roles and volunteering events in school could add to the experience list.

According to the Association of Fundraising Professionals, the middle ground salary can range from $65K-$75K, but that range says nothing of top-tier fundraisers who can bag in half a million or more, according to The Chronicle of Philanthropy analysis.
