Assume good work will be noticed



 If you’re a hardworking employee who always goes an extra mile, you’ll definitely be rewarded, right? Not really.



Corrie Shanahan, proprietor of the Beara Group, says that just expecting to be noticed won’t get you anywhere, and you have to make your contributions known. "This is particularly common with women but affects men, too," she says.

Being unaware of the market rate 



 Research shows that women are less likely than men to ask for a raise. This also affects people who have weak negotiation skills. If you don’t negotiate, it will keep your earning down throughout your career. Author Elizabeth Lions says that it is vital to know the market worth for your job. "Ask for a 10- to 15-percent raise when you make a job change," she adds.
