Judging from the NSSE report, Arts and humanities are areas of study that demand a great deal of out-of-class work. As per College Board, humanities program is typically interdisciplinary and includes classes that could focus on art, music, or languages. In contrast, art majors focus on different types of visual arts, such as painting or photography. The one thing that is common with respect to the students in both areas is probably the grueling time that they have to spend outside the classroom.
As per Rambo, the subjectivity of completion and evaluation associated with the projects carried out by the students of this program and the lack of blueprint/formula that states what you have done is right or wrong, are the main reasons behind the exhausting nature of this area of study.
