Mining: The recent issue faced by the thirty three miners of Chile who were trapped for several days already tells us a lot here. And it is not just when you’re trapped. A miner faces risks at any normal day of his work. They work with loud noises, dangerous gases, fumes, dust and heavy metals. They face a high risk of accidents from equipments, cave-ins and explosions. Constant exposure to dust particles can leave an individual with lung diseases. There is also the major danger of mercury absorption where a worker can have mercury entered into his body either through accidental swallowing or skin absorption. This can lead to poisoning by mercury. Loss in hearing is another possible danger here due to the loud noise by engines, crushers and drills that these people are exposed to.
