City with the Most Varsities



New Delhi, the capital of India, is home to 26 universities which is the maximum in any city. It houses 4 central universities, five state universities, 11 deemed universities and others. New Delhi is closely followed by Jaipur with 25 and Chennai with 22 universities. On the contrary, the other union territories of the country which includes the likes of Lakshadweep, Andaman & Nicobar, Diu, Daman, Dadar and Nagar Haveli do not house even a single university.     



50 Percent Reservation for Minorities



Established in 1920, Jamia Millia Islamia is the first and the only central varsity that has reserved half of its seats (50 percent) for Muslims, yet it enjoys the same privileges and rights of any other central university in the country.
