As per Phil Baty, Editor, Times Higher Education World University Rankings, India’s struggle to keep up with the best in the Asian continent is a cause of concern. The demands of massive higher education expansion and acute shortage of workforce are hindering educational reforms and making it hard to compete with the best.

While India is struggling to see the fruits of its efforts to reform higher education, smaller nations such as Taiwan have demonstrated its superiority with 17 representations, Hong Kong with four representations among top 20, while South Korea with 14 representations among top 100 and four among top 20.

The top ten list is made up of one university from Singapore, 2 from Japan, 2 from China, 2 from Hong Kong and 3 from South Korea.

Japan has as many as 22 universities in the top 100, while China has 15 representations in the list.
