Amidst all this, there is good news. IIT Rohtak has seen three top offers of $105,000 from a U.S. healthcare software company Epic Systems, compared to previous years. The average salary has risen to 21 percent compared to last year. IIT Mandi, which achieved 100 percent placement last year, is skeptical of the same performance this year. However, Amazon has hired six students for 20 lakh, as against top offers of 17 lakh- 18 lakh from Microsoft and Amazon last year. At IIT Gandhinagar, average salary has grown by 8 percent while IIT Patna has seen the top salary soaring from 16 lakh plus last year to over Rs 18 lakh. At IIT Varanasi, Microsoft has made an international offer to the tune of 60 lakh.

There is also a trend of more Japanese companies hiring this year around. Students, who anticipated this, have taken up short courses in Japanese language and culture to make themselves suitable for job offers. The placement team from Kanpur has forecasted that a lot of factors such as technology and politics will alter the distribution of international companies coming for recruitment. This will lend a more global flavor to future placements in India.
