Marissa Mayer took up a summer job as a grocery store clerk in Wausau, when she was 16. You may imagine it to be a laid-back job, but her bosses were hard on the metrics by measuring her performance every time. However, the job taught her a lot about family economics and the balance people have to achieve in daily life.
In addition, she picked up this one strange tick at the store that still annoys her when no bills in her wallet are facing the same way. As a grocery clerk, she had to count all the cash quickly, at the end of her shift.
