Geomatics Engineer/Land Surveyor



This is a rapidly developing line of work that focuses on spatial information.



The typical job duties of a professional in this line of work include undertaking land surveys/measurements using a variety of technical equipments such as laser alignment devices, satellite positioning system and so on; evaluating data using maps, charts, plans and computer applications such as GIS or CAD; presenting data to clients; writing reports; providing recommendations related to technical, financial and legal matters; managing projects and/or multi-disciplinary teams; producing and/or advising about construction plans and drawings; and so on. And the possible employers with regards to these professionals include the likes of government bodies, land developers, communication companies and utilities.



The high percentage of baby boomers, who are expected to retire in the coming few years is expected to create huge employment opportunities in this line of work, which means that grads can definitely expect to land a job immediately out of college.
