The University of Mumbai is one of the oldest and premier Universities in India. It was established in 1857 resulting upon Wood's Education Dispatch, and it is one amongst the first three Universities in India.
The University Of Mumbai was ranked 41 among the Top 50 Engineering Schools of the world by America's news broadcasting firm Business Insider in 2012 and was the only university to feature in the list of the universities in the five emerging BRICS nations. It was also ranked 3rd best university in Asia in terms of graduate students as percentage of total students and the 2nd best Multi Disciplinary University in India by Asiaweek in the list of Asia's best Universities 2000.
Moreover, the University of Mumbai was ranked 5th in the list of best Universities in India by India Today in the year 2013 and ranked at 62 in the QS BRICS University rankings for 2013.
