Manufacturing Sector to Create 3-4 Million Jobs: Government

New Delhi: The Government today said that the manufacturing sector will create around 3-4 million jobs during the 12th five year plan between 2012-17.

"Generation of employment is a function of economic growth.

"Approach paper to the 12th five year plan (2012-17) focuses on faster, sustainable and more inclusive growth for creating adequate livelihood opportunities. The approach paper estimates that the manufacturing sector will create around 3 to 4 million jobs over and above the pace of job creation in the recent past", Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions V Narayanasamy told Lok Sabha in a written reply.

The labour Bureau, Ministry of Labour and Employment has been conducting quarterly quick employment survey on changes in employment in selected sectors.

"As per the report for the 13th quarterly survey conducted during October-December 2011, additional new employment opportunities have been reported in different industries including Information Technology/Business Process Outsourcing sector in India", he said.

The report said that IT or BPO sector has shown an increase of 19.80 lakh in employment during October 2008 and December 2011.
