BANGALORE: In the last few decades, more and more self made billionaires (Bill Gates, Carlos Slim, Sergey Brin) have made their way to the top of the list of world’s richest people. However, inherited wealth still dominates the rich list. In the last five years, a few women who are self made female billionaires (Elizabeth Holmes, Sara Blakely, Denise Coates) also entered the list. #1 Christy Walton – 36.7 Billion – United States



The ninth richest person in the world, and the richest woman in the world, Christy Walton inherited a majority shareholding in the retail company Wal-mart and the First Solar Company from her husband John Walton .Walton is a U.S. citizen and lives in Jackson, Wyoming. Today her assets are worth nearly 36.7 billion.



#2 Liliane Bettencourt- 34.5 Billion-France



Liliane Bettencourt is the richest woman in Europe and heir to one of the world’s largest cosmetic company L’oreal. Bettencourt is the largest shareholder after inheriting the massive wealth from her father who is also the founder of the cosmetic giant. Eugene Schueller. At 34.5 billion, she recently overtook Bernard Arnault to become the richest person in France.
