The 'Strategic HR Summit' organized by SiliconIndia on the Auguat 6th in New Delhi, witnessed presentations by eminent CHROs, VPs and Directors of HR.
This HR Summit featured an excellent line-up of HR experts spanning across various industries and regional sectors, bringing with them a vast resource of experience. The coming together of like-minded HR experts to share ideas was very beneficial to HR practitioners.
The conference kick started with the talk on 'Corporate Culture - Creating a living & breathing organization' delivered by John K. John, Associate Director, Talent Transformation and Intrapreneurship Development from HCL Technologies, who spoke about the importance of culture in a corporation. He said, 'Corporations live or die by their connections to Culture. He also told that there are two ways in which a corporation can connect with culture i.e. externally and internally. Relating to it, he added, 'External connections will be to study the 'Culture' outside of the organization and be in touch with 'the happenings in that culture' & thereby making your strategic decisions for the corporation. With the examples of South West Airlines, Starbucks Coffee, ServiceMaster and finally, HCL' he expressed his views towards 'the Employees First, Customer second Philosophy'.
Taking the event ahead was Deep Mukherjee, Director of Kelly Services who said that a temporary staffing model is the new HR paradigm and will be the way most companies will approach their hiring plans in future, which gives them flexibility, right skills and 'just in time' labor. He also mentioned that temporary staffing market has matured from a state of low end, non-core body shopping activity to a strategically critical talent development engine for companies across India. According to him, India is the only country in the world getting younger because we will add 300 million people in labour market by year 2025. At last he added that temporary staffing models help create jobs in the country and is proxy to growth.
The summit became more interactive when Ajit Singh, Executive Vice President - HR of Network 18 spoke about bullying and harassment in the workplace. He said that legal responsibility and consequences of bullying and harassment in the workplace should be more explored to make the corporate environment more comfortable for all the employees equally. In the next session, Alok Nigam, Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer of Bharti Airtel threw some light on succession management, which has occupied lot of significance in recent times because of talent cry and any robust talent management practice needs to address this very comprehensively.
In the next session, Prashant Deo Singh, Head-HR & Group Affairs at Panasonic India emphasized on talent management as the most effective and future strategy to make the Human Resource more productive. Ajay Sharma, Country Manager & Head HR India, ST-Ericsson provided an interesting perspective on how a coach can play an active part in reinforcing the learning and how it can be used as a tool for building practice. The summit gained more interest with the topic 'Leadership training & Development', which was addressed by Ritesh Agrawal, Vice President-HR at DLF Pramerica Life Insurance. He emphasized that while it is important to have a well thought out Leadership development framework and execute it well, it is probably even more important to first let your leaders know that you are serious about Leadership development. Leaders have different development needs and it is important for one to recognize the same and fulfill in a holistic manner. Among the other aspects of HR management, Jamuna Muralidharan, Corporate People Development & HR Manager of Nestle South Asia Region spoke about 'Employee Engagement- Mobilizing the organization to drive higher engagement' and also told that there are many realistic actions which are possible and yield short and long term results.
