Global Tech Titans Hunt for IITians
Bangalore: The titans of technology, Microsoft, Google and Facebook, are recruiting students from the Indian Institutes of Technology across the country, for their headquarters, reports Times of India. The salary packages offered by the recruiting companies are higher than that of last year.
The article revealed that Microsoft is recruiting IITians for the first time for its Redmond headquarters. According to MyEng.com, Microsoft is offering $1.5 lakh (
65 lakhs) per annum. The Times article also said that Google is recruiting IITians for both, India and their global offices, with salary packages going up to
20 lakhs. Facebook had picked one student last year who was paid the highest salary of $140,000 (about
72 lakhs) per annum, apart from being given a relocation bonus and a one-time signing amount. Facebook officials have said that they will visit all the IITs, including the newly approved ones, for offering placements.
According to the report, electronic major, Sony, has offered five students
30-33 lakhs a year. HUL was among the only India based company among the top recruiters and its package went up to
17 lakhs a year, while Pocket Gems is offering
67.5 lakhs. Other big companies that are recruiting from the IITs include Goldman Sachs, Booz and Company, Boston Consulting Group, Schlumberger, ANZ Bank, Credit Suisse and Deutsche Bank.
Director of Global Markets Structuring, Deutsche Bank Group, Anand Vilayannur said, “We know the IITs have the top two percent of students. The brains are there. We are looking at the ability of the students to think and their curiosity of what's happening in the world of finance.”
It is reported that nearly 12 companies have visited IIT-Guwahati, 13 have visited IIT-Madras, 20 have visited IIT-Delhi and 18 have visited IIT-Kharagpur. The recruitment process started around 8 in the morning and stretched past midnight. Students were interviewed through Skype from the campus placement offices by recruiters from US companies like, Pocket Gems and Facebook.
